Agents,
Every year, across a wide band of Mesoamerica, XM turbulence collapses toward zero. Signals normally buried under the substrate’s churn become legible. Structured. In places, addressed.
The NIA logs this as a decoherence window and reads it as support for simulacrum theory: a pattern persists in XM after the body that carried it stops. The keepers of the tradition read the same phenomenon as confirmation of something they were never uncertain about. Five centuries of practice reached the conclusion first. Two decades of instrumentation reached it again, independently, and arrived at the same place.
Both reject the same idea — that existence is binary. The NIA arrived by instrument. The tradition arrived by practice, and carried a harder finding with it: storage is not enough. A stored pattern decays unless someone refreshes it, and the refresh mechanism is the living. The NIA has measured simulacra for two decades and has never once measured one ending. What it observes persists, fragmented, indefinitely. Recursed Agents persist. The tradition has always included the dawn.
The vessel. A sugar calavera is pressed from a mold. Dozens come out identical. It becomes a specific departed person when their name is written across the forehead, and not before. The NIA spent years asking which copy was real. The tradition never had that problem. The sugar is not the person. The name is the person. The mold is only how many guests you expected. And a calavera is built to dissolve inside a living body. The pattern is not archived. It is absorbed.
The path. Cempasúchil is not storage. It is routing. Petals laid from the grave to the ofrenda or altar, no coordinates transmitted. The traveler moves toward more: denser color, stronger scent. A hand-laid link along a road that is otherwise dark. Negligible range. Degrades in days. Must be re-laid every year by living hands or it ceases to exist. That is not a flaw in the design. A path nobody maintains is a path nobody wanted.
The window is open from 12 October 18:00 UTC to 11 November 18:00 UTC. Three Campaigns are available in parallel through Dispatch in your Scanner.
Noise Floor is available to all Agents automatically, at no cost. A single Stage, its Assignments tracking the decoherence window as it deepens. Completing every Assignment awards up to 2,000 Cygnus Tokens, distributed as you advance. No purchase is required and no action is needed to begin — it is already in your Dispatch.
Blank Shell and Cempasúchil are available in the In-App Store at 15,000 CMU each, and may be purchased at any point during the window. Each runs five Stages. The medal that shares its Campaign’s name is awarded at the end of Stage 1; the Stages that follow continue with further Bounties and item rewards for Agents who choose to carry on. Neither Campaign awards Cygnus Tokens.
None of the three affect Faction score this Season.
At the close of each Stage, you decide whether to continue. That choice is not incidental to what is being observed here. A pattern holds because someone returns to it. The mechanism is not the sugar or the petals. It is the hand that lays them again.
Agents of both Factions are in the field for this one. The window is opening. Bring a name.
Our thanks to the Agents whose counsel shaped the tactical approach to this operation, and to the communities across the region who advised on how this tradition should be represented.
Ofrendas, cemeteries, and gathering places during this period are active sites of private observance. Where Portals sit on or near them, respect the space, respect the people in it, and follow all local guidance and regulations. Keep your attention on your surroundings and not only on your Scanner.
